Hard working websites
Your website is your online business card and its ultimate aim is to get a high search engine ranking and re-assure your current and potential customers that you are a good company to do business with. Its worth investing some time and energy in making it the very best that it can be.
It also needs to work hand in hand with all your other marketing activity, so that when your customer sees your brand it is confidently reassured that they have made the right choice.
Websites are becoming more time consuming, but here are a few simple guidelines, which should help you think more clearly about the look and feel of your site.
Make it look as professional as possible so that it matches your branding, this way your customer will know that they are visiting the correct site.
Writing Style
Speak directly to your customer in a friendly and inviting tone. This also depends on what type of product or service you’re selling. For example if you’re selling children’s nursery places, your tone of voice will be very different to someone selling building products.
Easy Navigation
You know how frustrating it can be when you cannot find something on a site, but you know that its there. Don’t make your site like this.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Put very simply, there is no point having a great looking website, if it comes up 252nd in the search results when someone types in your product or service. So do your homework. Put into a search engine the words that your customer might use and see who comes up. Then use those words in the content of you site. The spiders or googlebots will trawl your site for its content.
Content is King
Make your website the one that your customer refers to if they want to know something useful in their field. Be helpful and become an expert in your field. A great way of keeping your content up to date is blogging. Perhaps once a week, add a new blog to your site about something that is relevant to your industry. That way you’ll keep the content relevant and fresh with your visitors wanting to keep returning.
Traffic
Its no good just having a great looking website, you also need to make sure that you get the visitors, so all your marketing material needs to promote your site. Make sure that they want to keep coming back.
