Creative Faces Competition

I wanted to share an exciting campaign that I have managed for Leeds College of Art. Francesca Jordan receiving her prize

The beauty is in its simplicity, but also it’s a text  book marketing campaign.

I believe in Creative Faces so much that I’ve entered it for the Heist Awards under the Best Integrated Campaign category and it has been short listed. Results will be announced at the end of May.

Each year Leeds College of Art attends Design Your Future (DYF) which is a UCAS exhibition held in Manchester and London specifically for students who wish to study art and design. They are usually in the first year of 6th form and aged 17.

The aim of the campaign was

  1. To increase visitors to the college website by 10%
  2. To increase applications by 7.5%

Research first year students were asked for their feedback on the ideas that agencies had produced. We decided to go with the Creative Faces idea. This meant encouraging them to take a photograph of their most creative face with their camera/ phone and email it into a gallery page which was tagged onto the college website.

A promotional flyer was also mailed out to all art teachers encouraging their students to enter the competition. One teacher added all his pupils’ entries through his own email address.

The result was a grand total of 220 entries; the prize was a Canon D1000 camera worth £450 which every art student would want to own, whether they were studying furniture, fashion or indeed photography.

I sent each entry a personalised email thanking them for entering the competition with either

  1. a link to the UCAS site for higher education students or
  2. to download an application form for further education students

Once the competition was closed, the existing students were encouraged to vote for their favourite entry. This resulted in Francesca Jordan winning. She came along to be presented her new camera which offered another valuable PR opportunity.

The results were:

During the time of the competition visitors to the website increased by 36.03%

Applications increased by 14.72%
